Rocking 2010

Submitted by Erik Schut on 08 January 2010

Early January a lot of people are sharing their expectations for the coming year.  I don't like to be a sheep, but I do want to share my view on 2010, so here we go :-)

2010 is going to be very very exciting.

The economy is picking up again, so we can stop yammering about it. I expect that more and more traditional publishers will finally get it and embrace new channels and social media. Twitter is more and more adopted by publishers although it's still underestimated by many. The first publishers who embraced it, are now seeing that Twitter is quickly becoming their second biggest traffic source (after Google). That's bigger than RSS, another traffic magnet used by web- players often not understood by many traditional publishers. If you find both Twitter and RSS new, forget about RSS and focus on Twitter!

Amazon has proven the viability of the eReader concept with their Kindle. Whereas the current technology works for books and it can also work for newspaper, it certainly won't work for magazines. For an engaging magazine experience we will need more than static black and white. So all eyes are now looking at Apple. Let's see if they will announce their Slate or Tablet at the end of this month. With the iPhone, Apple managed to exceed expectations, so the bar is high...

Within WoodWing we're working on a number of new projects. These projects make me feel more excited about 2010 than anything else. It's too early to share any details, but we will show a first glimpse on March 3 when we'll kick of the WoodWing World Tour in New York City. Hope to see you there.

Let's rock 2010 !
